Going Green, Going Gold (& Platinum):

Writing Songs of Social Consequence & Commercial Viability

Luke Reynolds is a Grammy-nominated songwriter, a successful recording artist, a documentary film music composer, and a sought-after session player and multi-instrumentalist.  Music comes out of him all day long.  But ask him what gets him out of bed in the morning and he'll talk about causes that matter to him:  looking out for the needs of the poor, protecting the environment, and providing music education to needy or developmentally challenged children.  The list of causes quickly becomes weighty.  Put them in song and then in your setlist and you run the risk of becoming System of a Downer or 3 Doors Downer or (insert your funnier depressing band name here).   How do we, as songwriters, ply our creative talents to what concerns us in the world and actually make some small difference on those issues?

We believe that where there exists a need, there exists a market.  Songs can address important topics AND be commercially viable.  This multiple-session workshop is designed to give you the inspiration, encouragement, training, and professional direction to write meaningful, memorable songs--all with the sensitivity and artistry necessary to get them heard.  For if these songs are truly to make a difference, they have to reach a wider audience than we get when we're preaching (and singing) to the choir.

The workshop includes two components, and each will bring two categories of special guests:
  • The first involves the creative work of writing the songs themselves, with successful, socially-concerned songwriters as special guests.

  • The second involves approaching the marketplace itself with workable strategies.  The workshop will propose a number of viable routes, with various gate-keepers and members of the industry community in attendance for input and advice.

The dates to this workshop event will be announced shortly.  The group size will be limited.  To reserve a spot in the queue, fill out this short form and let us know you're interested.

We congratulate you on your passion for your causes and for your art.  We look forward to further helping you bring the two together, meaningfully, so that your life can both serve and be rewarded by both pursuits.
