WRITING SONGS FOR AN ORIGINAL ACT

The Songwriting School of Los Angeles Presents The Visiting Teacher Series:
Cat Cohen, February 2 - March 9, 2010

In this condensed songwriting course you will learn to write songs for yourself (and/or other original acts) by exploring
  • what makes you original
  • what your core message, genre and style are
  • who your audience truly is
You will gain the songcraft to write to targeted song ideas, and you will learn to craft lyrics, melodies, and chord progressions in appropriate song structures that reinforce your unique talent. The weekly assignments will further your process of self-discovery, and each class will afford you opportunities to have your work analyzed for positive feedback to develop and effectively fit your original act.

David "Cat" Cohen is an accomplished songwriter, performer, author, and educator. He wrote the music theory chapters of the John Braheny songwriting classic The Craft and Business of Songwriting, and he is the author of his own work Songwriting for Your Original Act. He has taught for more than 35 years at respected institutions like UCLA, Musicians Institute, and countless festivals, industry conferences, and organizations.
